    Jorge Cruise has built a successful career around weight loss through books, appearances and his website. His personal experience struggling with weight as a young child and adult have won him over an audience that can relate. With this kit the New York Times Best selling author guarantees users will lose up to 6″ in less than 4 weeks. I think it’s more important to focus on the increased muscle strength and tone your body will have rather than the number of inches lost and that’s how I went into this review.

    This 8 Minutes in the Morning to a Flat Belly Kit includes an instructional CD (not DVD) of a 33 minute personal coaching session with Jorge and 26 daily workout cards made of very thick cardstock. The purpose of this kit is to help busy people lose two pounds a week by getting their muscles to burn fat 24/7.

    THE CD

    The CD Breakdown:

    * Intro/Welcome

    * Get Ready to Start

    * How to Lose 6″ in 4 Weeks

    * Kit Overview

    * Your New Life

    * Your Challenge

    Jorge explains the focus of this kit is using exercises to build muscle, not increasing your cardio like most weight loss programs. Cardio is good for your heart but it’s not effective for weight loss but still he recommends some form of cardio activity three times a week for 20-30 minutes to strengthen your heart muscle. The exercises restore metabolism by building muscles that will burn more calories than fat. Jorge swears the biggest cause of muscle loss is fad diets.

    As for eating, Jorge only touches on this. He wants participants to eat to make muscle, avoiding calorie counting, eat every three hours (breakfast, lunch, supper, two snacks and an evening treat), use the Cruise down plate (visual image of protein, carbs, veggies on your plate) and stop eating three hours before bed. The biggest asset here is the flat belly planner (you make copies for each day of the week) to organize and log success by tracking food, water and exercise.

    He touches a bit on emotional eating and again touts his website for 24/7 support and meal plans but I couldn’t find anything other than ads to buy meals, books and vitamins. The CD closes with an inspirational talk about enjoying your life.

    THE CARDS

    The specialized fold out cards are a multi level “strength training plan”. Each card contains four one minute moves which you repeat once giving you an 8 minute workout. There is a card for every day of the week with a weekend card covering both Saturday and Sunday.

    There are three levels of intensity to choose from. Level 1 is for the beginner and requires no equipment other than a chair, table, wall and the kit box. Jorge recommends everyone start at level one. If you haven’t had any physical activity, I totally agree. Level 1 is by no means for wimps but it is doable. After 8 minutes you can definitely tell you’ve worked your muscles. Level 2 is more challenging; again, with only a chair and wall as your required equipment. In Level 3 the exercises are advanced using a fitness ball and medicine ball. The three levels are colour coded in pink, yellow, and blue for easy searching.

    If you follow the recommended cards you only actually work the belly 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Tuesday is for the upper body and Thursday is for the lower body. On Sunday Jorge recommends a body cleanse using a Psyllium shake. The card and CD recommend you visit his website for further details on the shake but all I found was a link to buy the powdered product. The natural Psyllium husk can be found in a bulk food store if you need more fiber in your diet.

    The cards also contain a Power Thought and Visualization. Jorge Thoughts provide useful suggestions for improving your health and mental wealth. Some of the visualizations are corny, i.e. visualizing a first date with someone after you’ve reached your goal and their response to your body. The first week of visualizations center around how others see you, looking better to get a response from others and feeling better because of their response. Sometimes there are hints on emotional eating and success stories about people who have used Jorge’s plan.

    Does it work? Yes, but like any routine meant to put you in shape it is a life long plan of action, not a miracle cure. This kit is easy to understand and the exercises are doable. Obese people can do these exercises (week one and two anyway) but might have to slightly modify the moves due to surrounding flesh and extra weight. I found it helpful to have a small minute timer to do the one minute exercises as there are no repetitions to keep track of. I felt reasonably energized after only 8 minutes. It actually works out to ten if you include the warm up and cool down stretches.

    Even if you didn’t follow his dietary suggestions these exercises will be of benefit. If only 8 minutes a day can improve your life it’s worth trying and we all can spare 8 minutes for some activity. Reviewed by M. E. Wood.

    I have been following the routine and meal plans in “8 Minutes in the Morning to a Flat Belly” for a little over two weeks now (almost a record in my exercising history!). So far it has been very easy to follow. I like that it doesn’t require the purchase of “gym clothes,” membership fees, and driving to the gym. This is done at home, on my own schedule. Also, the meal plans are rather tasty and don’t leave you feeling hungry. Usually when I am on a “diet” all I can think about is when the next meal will be. This is not the case here. I hope to keep following this plan and see the inches disappear!

    bought the 8 Minutes in the Morning for Extra easy Weight Losss book and followed it religiously from exercises to Meal preparations. Really enjoyed the meals, and the easy exercises, but have had no results, whatsoever. Besides that I do Pelates twice a week at a gym, and I was sure that with this little boost, surely I would loose weight. I’m dissappointed, but will continue on to week two, perhaps then I will see a difference, hopefully.

    Most of my weight problem is in my stomach. Thanks to genetics. I have high blood pressure, diabetes and hypothyroid. My doctor told me I needed to lose weight especially in my stomach. I followed the exercises and the plan. I lost 10lbs all in my stomach and went down a size. No longer it is a problem to button the pants, shorts or skirts. I have 20lbs to go but the more I continue to do it the more I see results. Also, I have done the orginal exercises and the real shapes/real sizes and noticed a toned defination in my arms, legs and butt. This really works..I’m living proof. I would never promote something that doesn’t work.

    What the title and other reviews here don’t tell you is that

    Jorge recommends you cleanse your system every Saturday with

    a laxative. Not the way I want to spend my weekend.

    I really love the exercises in this book, and they really do help me! I have been adding more than just these exercises to my routine (mostly walking), but for toning, I love these.

    As for the rest of the book, I am not sure that I agree with his ideas. If you are looking just for some great exercises to do in a small amount of time, this is an awesome book!

    I bought this 8 min workout book because I loved the original book. I liked this book, but found the book a little harder to stick to than his original because of my lack of free time. I did however read this book cover to cover and still agree with everything he says. And as soon as school ends I will kick this program into full gear as I believe in his workouts I lost weight easily and fast on his original 8 min workout book. So I have faith in this book. Just stick to the program and you will be amazed how great you feel.

    Jorge Cruise has put together a great book to help us lose weight. If you hate strenuous exercise and counting every calorie that goes in your mouth this is the program for you. If you combine the book with membership on jorgecruise.com the odds are in your favor to finally lose the weight and firm up. The best part too is the diet guidelines are sensible and realistic. No gimmicks and no fads.

    I first checked this book out at our local library and I loved it so much I bought it. Great book lots of great tips and positive motivation, the exercises really work I have lost 60 pounds and have lots of loose belly skin and soft muscle tissue and I have also had 8 children and I am only 37years old so my belly has been very neglected for years, so the 8 minutes really works its fast and motivating thoughts great positioning tips and photos of how to do the right position and how to breath the right way, which I believe is the key to the flat belly I have been breathing wrong all along and killing myself with crunches….no more crunches yeah! There are a few exercises I still have a hard time with thats why I only gave it a 4 star rating, but like I said I have had 8 children so my stomach needs lots of TLC. anyway great book.

    I really did not like this book as much as “8 Minutes in the Morning” by Jorge Cruise. If you only have 8 minutes for Abs, I suggest getting one of Denise Austin’s abs videos that are shorter in length.

    I’ve found this book to be incredibly practical and effective for toning and firming the abdominal region. Although you will need a more rigorous exercise program to truly obtain a 6 pack, this is the program to start with to eliminate any soft area around your stomach and love handles and allow you to actually SEE your abs. This book has helped me to go to the next level. Includes great diet and lifestyle suggestions as well. Recommended.

    I Look for books all the time on this topic to see if there any new moves I can pick up to help shape and tone the stomach area which is a problem for most of us. I think if you are just starting out this book will help you understand the positions you need to get into but it’s going to take alot more than 8 minutes to get results and I have been training for years.

    This book’s premise is fine, and the exercises are reasonable. It would have made a perfectly good magazine article. But instead, he has padded the thing out beyond belief. The first 60 pages are trivial rehashes of information anyone who’s ever read anything about fitness could repeat back, printed in big type with lots of title pages, but that’s simply harmless. What’s inexcusable is the repeating word for word, picture for picture, all the “belly day” exercises for each of three levels: all four pages of each Monday’s routines are repeated for Wednesday, and again for Friday!

    Conclusion: $4 worth of information, packaged in a slick and annoying self-promoting $12.95 package.

    This book is very help ful to me as it lists the food catagories and gives examples of what to eat. The exercises are mindless but they sure are getting the work done. I added the exersises to my regular routine. I walk/run at least 3 miles each morning then do an hour of basic excersise. I take off exersisng on Sundays and sure feel lazy.

    The thing I liked best about “8 Minutes in the Morning” was the variety of exercises. …Flat Belly is much to repetitive for me to consistently follow the plan. I’m mixing the exercises in with “8 Minutes…” –I might not get results as quickly, but I also won’t be so bored I quit.
